Said our goodbyes and left Richmond on Monday morning after a fun Starbucks outing with our sister-in-law Tara, and then headed to the lovely Atlantic coast town of Virginia Beach! We made a quick stop in the historically significant colonial town of Williamsburg on the way, taking in a bit of this charming town, and had an amazing lunch at the Cheese Shop. We wish we would have had more time here as there was so much history to see! This town is home to the College of William and Mary, the second oldest in the US (Harvard is the oldest) established in 1693. It actually does have the oldest building still standing though, with the stunningly beautiful campus, with the quaint old town as the backdrop! I tried to imagine over three hundred years of students on these grounds…
When we arrived in Virginia Beach, we checked in to our hotel room, and were surprised to see that everything in the room with any hardness to its surface was covered with a thin layer of moisture! It only got worse when we opened the slider to take in the ocean! It was so humid, crazy humid! This picture is of the bathroom mirror, which looked like it was covered in steam from a shower or something!
We had to keep our shoes on the entire time just to avoid wet feet! So weird! This did not deter us however from taking the Brompton’s out on a lovely ride down the boardwalk! The winds of Maria were just beginning, so it was a real work out one way! We also came across readiness for a sand castle competition, way cool!
We then had a wonderful dinner with our niece Kerri and her family, husband Nic and kids Connor, Beau and Tillianne, which melted our hearts and made us laugh! This little family is so warm, sweet, and constantly busy! The kids are hilarious, extremely bright, and 100% pure fun! Sadly we didn’t capture a picture of their parents, sorry you two!! You both are sweet and adorable also!!! We love you all, and never enough time!
So this morning, we left Virginia Beach for Raleigh to visit our dear friend Michelle…will keep you posted on our happenings there!
For now, and always, thanks for coming along for the ride!
