First, Waco was so genuinely fun! Of course our main interest here was to see Chip and Joanna Gaines and the fruit of their passions at the Magnolia Silo’s and Bakery, and that is exactly what we did! We also scoured the streets of downtown, throughout various small shops, mostly dealing in various forms of antiques and reproductions, much like they use on their show.
Besides their offices at the silo’s, and the bakery (of which there is a long line, but so worth waiting for, trust me!)
they also have a huge Magnolia store, which features all of Joanna’s decor. All of it was contained in this sort of compound that is so family friendly, complete with a huge play space for kids, and a dozen food carts of all tastes!
We had a great time, despite the heat and the crowds! Unfortunately we did not see Chip or JoJo in person, but we were thrilled to see this new landmark! We have spent a few years watching their show on HGTV, and it was amazing to see how popular they are here in this small Texas town! High fives you two!!!
The next morning it was off to Austin, just about 100 miles to the south. We arrived and immediately took ourselves on a long overdue walk along the Colorado river and Ladybird Lake. It was hot, but felt great. We dropped our bags at our Airbnb, then off to listen to some live music at a venue close to us (the Saxon Pub), which was amazing! Pure Austin up and coming! Then thanks to a recommendation from some folks we met there, we went down to grab a bite an listen to more music outdoors at Guero’s, which was so totally cool! It was a live radio broadcast of a local station, seasoned musicians playing classic country. We ate outside on the patio, listening in this venue, blew us away! We both left feeling full in our hearts and our stomachs!
We are so excited for tomorrow, hoping to get downtown, check out some shopping, more venues for music, walking, coffee, great food, and lovely people!
